Abstract

This paper explores the essence of the shadow economy, its manifestation in Uzbekistan, and its potential benefits and drawbacks. The shadow economy can be described as a multifaceted segment of economic activity that is not fully reflected in official statistics, yet continues to play a notable role in national economic systems. The study evaluates its influence on public finances, market competition, and social fairness. It also emphasizes that, under certain conditions, such economic activity may function as a temporary support mechanism for vulnerable groups. The paper concludes by offering practical recommendations aimed at reducing its scale and facilitating its gradual integration into the formal economy.
