Abstract
It is essential to understand or study the origin, toponymy, and etymology of the names of areas where humans reside. Every toponym, as a word, possesses its own specific meaning and function. Each of them is distinguished by a range of characteristics, including the period of its formation, location, composition of its population, geographical conditions, natural environment, local economy, and sources of irrigation. The focus of this study is on the ethnotoponymy of place names and their distinctive features. This article examines the ethnotoponymic characteristics of certain toponyms in the Fergana region.
