Abstract

This article analyzes the issue of developing critical reading skills in students through the use of examples of modern English literature. The study highlights the processes of in-depth analysis of literary texts, understanding the author's position, identifying subtextual meanings, and forming students' independent thinking skills. Works of modern English literature are considered as an important pedagogical tool in the development of students' not only language skills, but also analytical and logical thinking. The article substantiates the effectiveness of interactive methods, question and answer, discussion, and analytical approaches used in the process of working with literary texts. It is also noted that various themes and images in modern English literature serve to expand the social, cultural, and moral views of students. The research results show that the learning process, organized on the basis of modern literary works, significantly develops students' skills in deep understanding of the text, independent analysis, and critical thinking.
